Nestled in the rolling hills of Lunano, Italy, Cappella del Suono is a lightweight wooden pavilion that quietly merges with its natural surroundings. Designed by Studio Carraldo, the structure feels as though it naturally emerged from the grain fields, gently resting on the earth.

Architecture That Plays with the Wind

Vertical timber slats form a permeable skin, suspended at varying lengths to create a floating edge. As the wind moves through them, they produce delicate, bell-like sounds—evoking the distant chimes of the nearby Monte Illuminato Monastery. The structure offers not only a visual experience, but also an auditory one, transforming wind into a quiet musical dialogue with the landscape.

Light, Shadow, and a Place to Pause

Its open frame lets light and shadow shift throughout the day, creating an ever-changing spatial experience. Built from untreated wood and with no heavy foundation, the pavilion blurs the line between built form and nature. A continuous bench running along the interior invites visitors to slow down, sit, and reconnect with the landscape—through stillness, sound, and presence.
