Inspiring Art Installations of Coachella 2026

Coachella , one of the world's most iconic music festivals, attracts attention not only with its stage performances but also with its large-scale art installations every year. Held at Empire Polo Field in California, the festival stands out as a powerful platform that brings together music and public art.

The large-scale works installed in the festival area for the 2026 edition were curated by Raffi Lehrer of Public Art Company in collaboration with Paul Clemente, Artistic Director of Goldenvoice. As in previous years, the program focuses on experiences that transform the space and draw the visitor in. We at well urban things wanted to compile these installations here.

Starry Eyes - Kyriakos Chatziparaskevas

Designed by London-based architect Kyriakos Chatziparaskevas , Starry Eyes is an installation of tall geometric forms inspired by star-shaped golden barrel cacti. These structures, clustered together and gently leaning like cacti facing the sun, are arranged in varying sizes, some reaching heights of approximately 12 meters.

Openings at the base of the cacti allow visitors to enter the structures. The brightly colored fabrics covering their exteriors create an intense atmosphere of color inside. The star-shaped openings at the top act as oculus frames for the sky; this detail is inspired by John Lautner's Bob Hope House in Palm Springs .

During the day, Starry Eyes provides a cool, relaxing shade; visitors can lie on the grass and watch the sky in an environment filled with colorful light and shadow effects. At night, the structure transforms into a cluster of glowing lanterns.

Visage Brut - TheLADG

Los Angeles-based The Los Angeles Design Group (TheLADG), led by Andrew Holder and Claus Benjamin Freyinger, reinterprets the totemic tower concept with a contemporary architectural language in their design Visage Brut .

The structure, which appears as a rising steel monolith, is formed by stacking modular boxes on top of each other. Each module consists of folded, bent, or cut forms, exhibiting a geometry pushed almost to its structural limits. These boxes are enlivened by layers stacked on top of each other, evoking slightly humanoid characters.

The resulting structure creates a strange and striking silhouette that is perceived both as a physical system supporting its weight and as a figurative entity.

Visage Brut is the product of an experimental collaboration withStud-IOConstruction, which works on software-aided steel production processes . As a continuation of TheLADG's interest in urban forms and historical references, the project transforms an industrial material, often used in retail buildings, into a highly expressive totem.

Network Operations - Dedo Vabo

Dedo Vabo returns to Coachella this year with Network Operations. The project is a new installment in the artist's long-running Hippo Empire series, which oscillates between sculpture and absurdist theatre.

The installation treats the public space not merely as a display surface, but also as a space that can transform into a stage. Dedo Vabo's work, as always, creates an unexpected, playful, and somewhat bizarre atmosphere.

Network Operations invites the viewer not just to be an observer, but to become a part of this absurd world.

Maze - Sabine Marcelis

Designed by Sabine Marcelis , Maze is a labyrinth composed of soft, inflated, and stacked curved forms.

The PVC surfaces, varying in height, are inspired by the natural topography of the Coachella Valley. The color gradients, ranging from light yellow to a deep red towards the center, resemble a desert mirage when viewed from a distance.

The resulting structure offers both a visual and spatial experience. During the day, it functions as a surface that filters sound and provides shade in the festival area, while simultaneously inviting visitors inside and encouraging them to explore. Inside, small resting areas and openings leading to the stages are discovered.

At night, Maze transforms into a completely different atmosphere. The inflated forms are illuminated from within, turning the labyrinth into a warm and glowing landscape.

Holoflux - Güvenç Özel (Coachella 2023)

Coachella's arts program has built a strong archive over the years, bringing together works from different disciplines. We wanted to mention Güvenç Özel , the architect, artist, and technology producer whose work was featured in the 2023 edition of Coachella . He truly created one of the most remarkable pieces at the festival that year.

Working on augmented reality, interactive robotics, and machine learning, Özel stands out with his interdisciplinary approach exploring the relationship between architecture and digital culture. Known for his curatorial intervention at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the designer is internationally recognized for his works that question the effects of new technologies on space, aesthetics, and social structure.
